phibes - dr. phibes is back after a three year hiatus and he's out to get a map and/or key via elaborate murder that will lead him and his dead wife to eternal life in egypt. more fun from dr. phibes. plenty of 'what? that's not possible! how'd he do that in that amount of time?' a bit of a shameless rehash, but a decent ride nonetheless. 6.5/10
automaton - disjointed, less-than-original zombie pic complete with a military experiment gone wrong and a group of extremely lucky surviving teens. i don't know why there was some hype surrounding this movie. i read that it was supposed to be a gritty, fresh take on the zombie genre. best i can tell, the only thing that makes this somewhat unique is that the shaky-cam was used prodigiously and the zombies run. neither device is new. also, it's just over an hour long and has a goddamned 'to be continued' ending! 4/10
