man seemingly returns from the dead to avenge his dead wife through elaborate murder set pieces. i heard about this movie from a guy out in L.A. i sort of didn't believe that it could be so brutal. (his description included the set where the man was expected to cut a key out of his son's chest to save him from being killed/maimed by acid.) it's pretty brutal all right but it's not gut-wrenching. it seems to be an inspiration for movies like saw but it doesn't have the gritty atmosphere. in fact, the sets are brightly lit and downright opulent at times. it's definitely a movie of the 70's but it holds up as an entertaining price vehicle today. 7/10
