run - simon pegg is a screw-up who left his super-gorgeous and pregnant wife at the alter and tries to win her back 5 years later by running in a marathon against her fiance. this movie actually had quite a few good laughs in it. it also had quite a few predictable and cheap laughs. thandy newton is way out of pegg's league. pegg's friend/thandy's cousin is the best character in the movie. he's a really quirky (and somewhat sleazy) guy who gets no backstory and doesn't learn any lessons - it's perfect.
doomsday - hot, supercop in 2035 is sent into walled off scotland to search for a cure to the virus that got scotland walled off in the first place. i really, really liked dog soldiers. i really liked the descent. i'm not so keen on this one though. too bad. it's got a lot of good stuff in it - mostly the kills. i can see that it's purposefully disjointed but it doesn't mesh perfectly. it goes from equilibrium to land of the dead to escape from new york to beyond thunderdome to army of darkness (if that movie wasn't funny), to enemy of the state, and back to thunderdome. all in the span of an hour and 40 minutes or so. ugh. whatever - i guess i don't regret watching it. i just hope that marshall's going to get back on track with his next one.
