it's a long time since i watched this since i've been slacking on the comments, so these have run together. i'll take a stab at it though. zatoichi probably wanders in to some village and there is an injustice that he discovers. he works to punish those responsible. along the way he meets a true honorable swordsman and either fights him to death or they go their separate ways.
