sin city is sin city. i've read it before and i'll probably read it again.
AH was pretty good. gave me the chills a few times. it was frustrating though to go right from genuinely creepy moments (anything about jodie) to lame, very unbelievable crap (green slime.) i'd like to know 'where are they now'. get to work jay anson - what else have you got to do?

The generally excepted story of the Amityville Horror says that Jay Anson and the Lutz family concocted the story with William Weber, the lawyer for Butch DeFeo. Weber wanted to use the "haunting" in his defense of Defeo, and the Lutz family were way over their heads financially and wanted an excuse to get out of their new mortgage.

- Butch Defeo has told multiple versions of the killing of his family, most of which do not include anything paranormal. In 1975 he was given six 25 year sentences and is still in prison in New York.

- Jay Anson had a career as "writer" of promotional films for such movies as Logan's Run, Deliverance and the Dirty Harry series. The only other book he wrote was 666, a fictional story about a haunted house. He died in 1980.

-William Weber publicly admitted his involvement in making up the story and he sued the Lutz's for what he considered his share of the book and movie royalties. They settled out of court.

-George and Kathy Lutz were divorced around 1989. They made a boatload of money from the original book and movie, as well as the subsequent sequels. After years of retelling ever-changing stories, Kathy and George Lutz died in 2004 and 2006 respectively. Kathy's sons have since criticized their stepfather as a hoaxer and for turning their lives into a media circus.

- The house in Amityville still stands but the address, windows and paint color have all been changed in order to dissuade curious tourists. None of the subsequent residents have ever reported anything out of the ordinary happening in the house.
